- Grupo Sud, an open working space by 57STUDIO
A series of warehouses took up the 20-metre long and 75-metre deep site in the "Italia" quarter of Chile's capital, embracing design have been turned into the head offices of four companies operating in the creative sector, with shared work spaces driving the development of new ideas.
For this project, the designers from 57STUDIO needed to consider both a tight budget and a very rapid turnaround time (5 months). Still, like others before them, they managed to turn these impediments into excellent sources of inspiration, to the advantage of sustainable design, in both economic and environmental terms.
The first thing the 57STUDIO team did was knock down the divisions in the warehouses to create flow and communication. They leant heavily towards making the areas light, stressed by a neutral colour palette, while some walls were stripped back to the original brick layer. The panels of the new technological systems are in galvanised steel - on show and providing an attractive contrast between the old and the new.
This renovation is also underscored by the custom furnishings and lights, all designed by 57STUDIO to make Grupo Sud not only an inviting, joyful shared an open working space, but also one with a bold visual identity.
