FNB JoBurg Art Fair 2014, focusing on photography. The connection of Livegreenblog and Floornature with South Africa continues even after the 25th UIA 2014 world conference in Durban. We follow the initiatives of the Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg, particularly active in the South African cultural scene.

The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg has been cooperating with the Joburg Art Fair since its inception in 2008 and three projects were presented during this year’s edition, showcasing themes dear to us: urban spaces, social aspects and photography.

Two South African photographers, Thabiso Sekgala and Musa Nxumalo and Kenyan, Mimi Cherono Ng'ok presented their exhibition “Peregrinate” using the concept of photography as a visual exploration of discovery and representation. They visually captured the streets of Soweto, the backyards of Nairobi and the Jordanian alleyways, to examine the connection between these spaces.

And the publication “Just Ask! From Africa to Zeitgeist” highlights current debate on where photography is going in Africa, a real art guide, which gives readers a close-up look at a very active creative reality.
A photographic and art study also inspired the second book presented at the 2014 FNB Joburg Art Fair 2014: Ponte City. A multidisciplinary narration by photographer, Mikhael Subotzky and British artist, Patrick Waterhouse constructed around Ponte Tower, Johannesburg’s landmark building that represents the magnetic pull of this South African city .

ree examples of South Africa’s burgeoning art and cultural scene, in addition to World Design Capital, Cape Town 2014 (WDC2014) and the UIA conference in Durban.
