Behind the lines by TYIN tegnestue Livegreenblog has read “Behind the lines” by TYIN, a book about Norwegian architect duo Andreas Grøntverdt Gjersten and Yashar Hanstad, and about their experiences, successes and letdowns. A really honest look at their work and the discrepancy between perception and real effect.

“Behind the lines by TYIN tegnestue” written by Andreas Skeide is all about Andreas Grøntverdt Gjersten and Yashar Hanstad, the two names behind TYIN tegnestue architecture studio, who use a very personal, direct approach to share their career path with readers.

They are extremely honest about it, openly soul-searching their doubts – both design and professional – and their modus operandi. So the book is a way of staying connected even “offline”, a declaration of love for the “Open Source” world that believes in sharing knowhow, like they do.

Special attention was paid to the world of web and communication, emphasising the words of Yashar Hanstad in the book “Architecture on the web. A critical approach to communication” with regard to the perception of architecture on the web, which often rewards appearances rather than the real effect of the building on its environment and on the lives of people. A very important point, particularly for an architect with ideals, involved in social projects, and who would like people to look beyond appearances (in every sense!)

We’re lucky enough to know Andreas and Yashar personally, and we can safely say that “Behind the lines by TYIN tegnestue” is consistent with their approach and their mission, a book by architects who talk to you with their hearts in the right place. A book that draws you in and that makes you fall in love with sustainable architecture, even if you’re not an expert, because here it’s not about archistars, it’s all about young architects who still want to use their expertise to change the world rather than build a monument to their egos.
