ASLA Professional Awards: The Crown Sky Garden, Chicago.
Boston-based Mikyoung Kim Design is the winner of one of the Honor Awards conferred as part of the 2013 ASLA Professional Awards with their design of The Crown Sky Garden for Ann & Robert Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

“This is a happy and artistic space – a space for all”, in the words of the 2013 Professional Awards Jury of ASLA, the American Society of Landscape Artists, discussing the project by Boston-based Mikyoung Kim Design for the children’s hospital of Chicago.

This inspiring garden and tree house occupy the 11th and 12th floors of the 23-storey hospital in downtown Chicago.

The designers have come up with a playful garden using innovative materials and colours, all to suit children. The young patients can de-stress in the bamboo groves, custom recycled resin panels, and engage with the settings created using natural stone and reclaimed wood from the region. Interactive elements of light and sound activated by the children themselves define the various spaces set up for innovative discovery and engagement.

The Sky Crown Garden is also a case study to further understand the beneficial effects of nature and garden environments on the healing process.
