On 19th and 20th November, architects from all over the world will converge on the city of Istanbul, Turkey for ARKIMEET 2014.

Urban planning is becoming more and more the centre of architectural debate: from London to Istanbul, discussion revolves around urban spaces, about their abrupt transformation, about our increasingly global and connected world.

Starting from the key question “What's next?” ARKIMEET 2014 focuses on the future, covering intrinsically sustainable themes so that now we can lay down the foundations for more eco-friendly cities with less environmental impact.

In this context, technology and the web are playing an ever more important part, both in communication and in planning the actual cities. This topic is also covered in the recently published book “Architecture on the Web. A critical approach to communication”, edited by Paolo Schianchi.

Damiano Cerrone from SPacial INtelligence Unit, also made a contribution to the book and he will be speaking at ARKIMEET 2014. He will be discussing the new potential of the web and infrastructures, particularly concentrating on interaction planning as an idea for cities after the third industrial revolution: “Interaction planning is based on people and their spatial relations and in its procedures of reviewing and sharing activities of individuals, it implements a shared planning process that makes users the subject of the planning.”

ARKIMEET 2014: What's next? will therefore be offering some new tips for urban planning 3.0.
