Architecture and friendship. Project by Romano Adolini
A three-family residence in Nepi transposes the concept of friendship into the building. The project by Italian architect, Romano Adolini combines local materials with a floor plan that encourages the inhabitants to interact while at the same time guaranteeing their privacy.

Living with friends: lots of people dream of this, particularly with changes to the traditional family structure that is now producing new forms of cohabitation.
Italian architect, Romano Adolini measures his skill at handling these problems in his project for a three-family home in Nepi, Italy.

Three volumes have been built on a corner lot in a residential zone, pivoting around the perfect fulcrum: an olive tree, symbol of friendship. The three buildings are connected by a portico.

The portico, like the three buildings, features a single pitched copper roof. Each building has its own plunge pool, accessed through double height windows, while the friends can get together in the shared garden.

The exterior walls have been clad in tuff, a local material that was already extensively used for constructions in the Etruscan era; here it takes the form of bricks, in accordance with the tradition of Orvieto.
