- AIROS, sustainable apartment building by NAJAS ARQUITECTOS
AIROS, by architects Esteban Najas Raad and Adrián Falconi from Najas Arquitectos, is a 6-storey apartment building with 23 units located in the Lomas de Monteserrín district, not far from its namesake park.
This top quality residential building with stand-out sustainable features is the product of the foresighted developer, Francisco Soria, who Najas Arquitectos has worked with before on Vivalto.
As Esteban Najas explained to us, in their projects people are what count, so they base their work on how to implement architectural solutions that can improve the quality of living of the people who use their constructions. AIROS is resolved around a 19-meter tall stairwell - the full height of the building. This gallery houses the vertical orchard garden where local plants like mint grow alongside strawberries and other plants, and each floor connects directly to it. The stairwell is glass-encased to let in daylight, which also flows in through the skylight.
The garden is watered by an automatic hydroponic system using the rainwater collected on the rooftop. The rooftop has another garden - this time horizontal - with an area of 300 square meters. It is also equipped with cooking and barbecue facilities for community enjoyment. The power for most of the common areas is supplied by solar panels, reducing the environmental impact even further.
AIROS by Najas Arquitectos for Francisco Soria thus offers a perfect combination of elegance and ecology, driving a sense of community through the shared and co-grown garden greens!
