A home in Sant Joan by Egue y Seta.

Egue y Seta is the architecture studio that revamped a home, turning it into a study of modern living, and exploring the original spatial layout with a play of textures and surfaces for a striking visual effect.



Passeig de Sant Joan is one of Barcelona’s grand boulevards built at the turn of the 20^th century and joining the old city with the new districts. 





The home was revamped by Daniel Pérez and Felipe Araujo of the Catalan multidisciplinary firm, Egue y Seta and is a virtuous example of connecting the past with the present, where the clear focus is on the materials used for the project.





The designers from Egue y Seta made no changes to the original layout of this small, 75 square-metre home, adopting a mix of finishes and materials to generate creative tension, where the bare brick walls and timber and tile floors speak a contemporary visual language: images as objects, words as paintings.





The far-sighted layout of the various living functions has generated a spatial story with a fluid movement, without compromising the privacy of the bedroom. The relocated kitchen is the focal point of the project, the social gathering place of modern families. In the words of the Egue y Seta designers, “the kitchen is not only where the mother cooks, it is now home to many other activities. Here we cook and we also read the newspapers, browse our ‘ipads’…and have a drink with friends”.



The whole project makes the most of natural light, for a functional, character-filled interior, adopting solutions that bring together the old parts and daily needs in perfect harmony.
