The landscaping project of Central Plaza, a shopping mall in Chaing Rai, in the north of Thailand was awarded the 2015 TALA Honour Award for General Design – Commercial.

Not just a shopping mall in Chaing Rai, but a generous space for the locals to enjoy: Central Plaza responds to the typical natural mountainous environment of the city in the north of Thailand with a detailed landscaping project.
Shma Co. Ltd. designed the outdoor areas of the shopping mall, and proposed a flexible nature to enhance the shopping experience with colourful native plant life, urban furnishings and cascades, taking special care to use the consummate regional plant - the Red Silk Cotton Tree (Bombax Ceiba), also known as the Ngiew Tree.
This tree, with its famous orange flowers creates real islands of colour, emphasised by the terracotta sculptures created from those same flowers by local artist, Master Somluk Pantiboon.
When you see this landscaping project, you feel as if it is wrapping you in a warm embrace, turning into the natural stage for the shopping mall, drawing its whose compositional power from the engagement between nature and manmade.
The project by Shma Co. Ltd. was awarded the 2015 TALA Honour Award for General Design – Commercial by the Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA).
