BIG architectural studio has unveiled its plans for the observation tower which is to become a new symbol of the American city: a tall concrete tower that will change the Phoenix skyline and offer spectacular views of the city and the landscape around it.
Bjarke Ingels, founder of BIG architectural studio, underlined how the plans for the PIN tower are intended to offer a very different experience from the New York Guggenheim Museum. The architect says the Guggenheim offers visitors an artistic experience which winds down around a central vacuum, while the key to the Phoenix tower will be upward motion allowing visitors to see all around them.
The concrete tower designed by the architects of BIG recalls the shape of a pin. Three glass elevators take visitors to the top: a perfect sphere created out of a spiral allowing visitors to admire the view which can also be used as a flexible exhibition space.
