Alessandro Speccher, NextLandmark 2015 winner The young winner of the photography section of the NextLandmark 2015 contest, organised by  Floornature, impressed the jury with his pictures of the geometry within Milan architecture.

Born in 1980, Alessandro Speccher has worked with prestigious design studios for years. Camera in hand, travelling back and forth between Rovereto and Milan has been an ongoing pursuit since he first started with photography in 1995.
In his case this youthful passion didn't stop there (how many of us didn't go through a “photography” period in adolescence?) but carried on as a way to capture whatever attracted his scientific mind through the lens of his camera.
And it is precisely the scientific detail that made such an impact on the jury of the Next Landmark 2015 international competition to proclaim Alessandro Speccher as the winner of the Photography category. The focal point is not emotions but geometry, symmetry, compositions, equilibrium, prospectives and the hidden regulations of the photographed subject. In other words, urban landscapes and architecture is what he wants to portray.
In Speccher's hands the camera becomes an instrument for changing the point of view of what appears before his eyes. That is how, in his images, the necessary detachment originates in order to be able to observe, and therefore understand better, our everyday architectonic environment. His way of modus operandi is perceptible in the showcase we share with our readers, namely the shots from his Milan series, being what he won the first prize for.
To our question about how a photographer can attribute added value to architecture Alessandro Speccher responds that, apart from broadening the viewpoints architecture is seen from, “ the very fact of documenting a structure over the years, in different moments of the day, in different climatic conditions and in a wide range of light temperatures makes the architecture a human space with its own emotions”.
We completely agree with this statement and, yet again, confirm the extreme importance of the role of the photographer in the mediation and spreading of the design message. No matter what the style, Alessandro Speccher prefers an environment with a symmetrical and almost mathematical look. Indeed, he who is behind the camera always comes into contact with the urban fabric and becomes its interpreter, leaving his own mark as a “personal touch” which humanises the urban landscape.
