Alessandro Mendini wins the European Prize for Architecture

The European Prize for Architecture, an award presented by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, was recently presented to Italian architect and designer Alessandro Mendini.

This the fifth edition of the prize, which has previously been awarded to Finnish architect Marco Casagrande (2013), Norwegian studio TYIN tegnestue Architects (2012), German studio Graft Architekten (2011) and architect Bjarke Ingels of the Danish studio BIG.

Christian Narkiewicz-Laine, president of the Chicago Athenaeum, emphasised that Alessandro Mendini is one of the most unusual and iconic minds in the history of art and architecture all over the world, adding that in an age of "viral" copying and reproduction of architecture and architectural concepts, Mendini’s work manages to preserve its originality.
