7WTC. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). New York. 2006

New York, USA,

Skyscraper, Offices,

It was the last building to fall on 11th September and the first to be rebuilt: tower number 7 of the World Trade Center in New York is the work of the architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, who represent one of the largest architecture studios in the United States and in the world.

7WTC. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). New York. 2006 These first floors, which are the basement of the building, house an electricity substation that generates enough energy for the whole WTC area. The other 42 floors are glass covered and positioned so that they jut out from the real facade.
The careful choice of finishing materials;a high energy saving plumbing system that uses rainwater; the use of recycled materials and machinery with low emissions were some of the reasons that allowed this building to fall within the standards requested in NY for the sustainability certificate.
Particular attention has also been paid to safety. This is demonstrated by the fact that the steel structure is notably over-sized and covered in fireproof material that is ten times superior to the minimum quantities specified by New York regulations.
