The 5th Ugo Rivolta European Architecture Prize, a competition organised by the Order of Architects of Milan every two years for the best social construction projects in Europe, closed recently. The winner of the 2015 prize is architectural practice Harquitectes+Dataae for Student Housing in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona. The winners of the previous four editions were: Guillermo Vàsquez Consuegra – Spain (2007), Kis Péter Épìtészmuterme – Hungary (2009), Zanderroth Architekten – Germany (2011) and Atelier Kempe Thill – The Netherlands (2013).
The 14 finalists shortlisted out of 49 projects admitted to the fifth edition of the competition are featured in an exhibition underway on the premises of the Order of Architects of Milan.
The judges for the 2015 prize, Carmen Espegel (Spain), Paola Dalmonte, Massimiliano Monetti, Orsina Simona Pierini and the winner of the previous edition, Oliver Thill (the Netherlands), also awarded three honourable mentions to architects and architectural practices: Luis Martínez Santa-María for 27 social houses (Spain), SV60 Arquitectos for 317 Social Housing units in “Loma de Colmena” (Ceuta, an autonomous region of Spain in North Africa) and, lastly, Durisch + Nolli Architetti Sagl for a student housing project in Switzerland.
