In 1997 5 + 1 and Chaix Morel were asked to come up with a plan for conversion of Savona¿s Bligny barracks into a new multifunctional centre for productive resources and advanced education.

5 + 1, Chaix Morel: conversion of Bligny barracks into a university campus, Italy, 1997 Intermediate areas in the half-shade were created which dialogue with the lovely maritime pine trees growing on the lot. The architecture promotes a concept of education very similar to that aired in the stoa of ancient Athens: a state of physical and mental well-being, where pleasure and knowledge come together. Circumstances forced the architects to work empirically on multiple facades and on different scales at the same time: the overall plan, the form of the terrain, the materials, the roofing, the details of the facades.
As the project proceeded new funding arrived, the functions of the programme were redefined and increased, and expectations rose. The campus had to be linked with the city not only by moving the entrance to the Command Building to the end of the road axis, but through a simple, effective, low-cost stratagem.
