"For photographing architecture with a focus on its specific features and on the artistic potential of the medium" is the motivation the scientific committee of the 7th International Ischia Architecture Award cited in presenting the PIDA photography prize to Matteo Piazza.
Originally from Milan, with a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano in 1984, Matteo Piazza is a professional photographer concerned specifically with photographing architecture and interiors and industrial photography, with incursions into the world of contemporary art. This is the case of the exhibition “Statue of Liberty” presented in Ischia the week of the PIDA Award.
“Statue of Liberty” is a photo feature inside the monument that has come to stand for New York: the Statue of Liberty.
The photos were taken in 1998 following a conversation between Matteo Piazza and Renato Rizzi, a IUAV professor, and is the photographer’s own personal study rather than a commissioned project.
