Vienna is currently (from 28 May to 3 October 2021) hosting the fourth edition of the Biennale, entitled: "Vienna Biennale for Change 2021: Planet Love: Climate Care in The Digital Age". At five different locations across the city, exhibitions, projects and events illustrate the contribution architecture, design and art can make to a sustainable future inspired by “climate care” and “planet love”. On 3 and 4 September 2021, Architekturzentrum Wien will be holding the "Planet Matters" conference, searching for innovative solutions for stopping or mitigating climate change.

Tatiana Bilbao Estudio exhibition at Architekturzentrum Wien

The exhibition dedicated to Tatiana Bilbao Estudio was officially opened at Architekturzentrum Wien on 18 August. The Mexican firm’s most important projects are on shown in Austria for the first time, accompanied by a “cabinet of curiosities” containing samples of the raw materials used, working models and sketches. Visitors will thus be enabled to explore the design approach and architectural vision of Tatiana Bilbao and her firm.

Transforming existing constructions: two projects by MEGATABS in Vienna

MEGATABS, the studio founded by architect Daniel Hora, recently completed two projects involving transformation of existing buildings in Vienna: a ground floor and basement converted into an elegant gallery in an industrial mood, and a loft office which led to the chance discovery of a historic glass ceiling hidden behind a false ceiling, which the architects restored to add character and value to what was otherwise an extremely simple space.

Berger Parkkinen Architects designs Der Rosenhügel housing in Vienna

For the Berger + Parkkinen architecture firm, 2021 has certainly started off on the right foot. The Paracelsus Bath & Spa Salzburg, a project that the architecture studio based in Vienna completed last year and that we have already presented in Floornature’s pages, was nominated for two major awards: the Mies van der Rohe Award and the Fiabci Prix D'Excellence Austria. The architecture firm has also recently completed a number of other interesting projects, like the "Der Rosenhügel" housing complex, built on the former site of the film studios with the same name located in Vienna.

Balkrishna Doshi Architecture for the People exhibition - Architekturzentrum Wien

Vienna’s Architekturzentrum is one of the first cultural centres to reopen following the lockdown imposed by authorities to contain the covid19 pandemic. Architekturzentrum Wien picks up right where it left off, with the opening of the exhibition "Balkrishna Doshi - Architecture for the People", initially planned for the end of March, which never opened because of the pandemic. The exhibition focuses on the work of Balkrishna Doshi, who became the first Indian architect to receive the Pritzker Prize in 2018 and is one of the most important figures in Indian Modernism.

The Danish architecture studio 3XN designed the Renngasse 10 apartment building in Vienna’s first district. A contemporary design that adapts to the surrounding historic buildings in a way that complements its neighbours, at the same time retaining its own identity.
