Architect Amos Goldreich has designed an extension for a “House for a Gardener” in Stroud Green, London

London-based architect Amos Goldreich has recently designed an extension to a home for a couple in the capital, one of whom is an experienced gardener. The greatest challenge consisted of maintaining plenty of space for the garden, which the client has lovingly tended for nearly thirty years. The trick that made this possible was the creation of a winter greenhouse within the interior spaces, thus establishing a visual relationship with the plants from every single room on the ground floor. The kitchen saw the most dramatic changes from the extension, with Goldreich opting to characterise it with long, exposed oak-clad beams, creating a sense of continuity between the original spaces and the new additions. In doing so, he made the renovation work seamless and imperceptible, satisfying the clients, who hope to be able to live in the house for at least another thirty years.
