Neri & Hu’s Junshan Cultural Centre

Neri&Hu’s Junshan Cultural Centre is located just outside Beijing, among the meandering rivers and undulating mountain ranges of the Miyun reservoir, and also includes a clubhouse and a sales centre. The architecture is based on a blend of Nordic design with contemporary oriental style, combining a bare brick structure and a pattern of vertical aluminium panels with a wood print that lightens the building’s external appearance. The luxurious interiors are designed to blend into their natural surroundings, and the inner courtyard is covered by a sculptural ceiling of Venetian white plaster that acts as a trait d'union between the spaces.

Chapuis Royer Architectures Multimedia library Montbonnot Saint-Martin

The multimedia library and cultural centre designed by Chapuis Royer Architectures in Montbonnot Saint-Martin, near Grenoble, France, revitalises the historic 13th-century priory of Saint-Martin. Concrete and corten steel are the materials the architects use to work on the site, which is a particularly complicated one in terms of its topography and wealth of existing historic and architectural constructions. The result is thorough restoration of these existing constructions with a new, boldly contemporary expansion that fits harmoniously into its surroundings and establishes a dialogue between the new, the old and the natural landscape around them.
