The legend of the treehouse lives on in the unspoilt forests of Northern Sweden. There are now seven special rooms in the Treehotel and the latest has been designed by the Snøhetta studio.

Snøhetta Treehotel The 7th room: a holiday in a tree

When looking for projects that linked holidays to a discovery of architecture, one obvious choice was the 7th room designed by Snøhetta that has enlarged the Treehotel. The special rooms of this hotel, commissioned by ownersKent Lindvall and Britta, in Harads, in the virgin forests of Northern Sweden, are designed by various architecture studios, but all have a common feature: they are about 10 metres from the ground.

With its floor to ceiling windows and terrace suspended in space, the 7th room designed by Snoetta gives its guests breath-taking views across the forest and Lake Lule. The relationship with nature is an essential element of the design and can be seen in every space, including the ceiling with its large skylights over the beds, to offer the chance to observe the starry Swedish sky.
The accommodation is built on twelve columns which, together with the dark pine panels that cover the facade, help reduce the building’s impact on the forest. They are also camouflaged by the large black and white photo of trees that covers the base of the 12 x 8 m building.
The interior is 55 m2, divided into two bedrooms, a living area, bathroom and open-air terrace. Designed and built according to the tradition of Nordic huts, with simple furnishings and pale colours that contrast the exterior, the 7th room is a special place surrounded by unspoilt nature, where one can relive one’s childhood dream of a "treehouse".
