Flexibility is the main feature of "Cabin Gapahuk" designed by the Snøhetta achitects’ studio for an important Norwegian producer of leisure homes.
Gapahuk is a traditional Norwegian building witha simple wooden structure, with two-three walls and a roof , built to shelter you from the elements. The architects were inspired by traditionto design and create a building that could adapt to different weather and climates. For example, the roof has a slight torsion, to offer protection from wind and sun and the pitches are inclined to support solar panels for energy production.
Gapahuk has a compact design, both to limit the building’s footprint on the landscape where it is located and for energy and sustainability – it is a small building that is easily heated. The distribution of spaces is focused on communal areas, both inside and out, to offer the inhabitants more opportunities to be together. There is a spacious living room and kitchen overlooking a large open-air patio. The three bedrooms, bathrooms and utility room that complete the design are smaller.
