Studio Kazerne: The world amazes me

Studio Kazerne: The world amazes me
Dutch photographer Menno van der Meer introduces himself with an expression that has a lot to say about his approach to photography: “What truly amazes me is what the world is like”.
This joy of discovery is apparent in all his photographs, from official architectural photo features to the shots he shares with us here.  He portrays residential buildings, industrial plants, even the demolition of old buildings without preconceptions. There is nothing nostalgic about his photography, but he captures interesting details such as unexpected geometries or shadows packed with meaning.
His shots demonstrate how much of what photography has to say is enclosed in the arbitrary way a photographer decides to represent the particular portion of the world which he or she frames with the lens of the camera.
The mediality of Menno van der Meer’s images in his photographic vision removes that thick veil that so often blurs our vision, putting us in the position of someone who can still look around with amazement.
