Máximo Panés black and white photographs in Barcelona

Máximo Panés black and white photographs in Barcelona Máximo Panés discovered the infinite and subtle possibilities of black and white the first time he saw Henri Cartier-Bresson’s photographs. He was convinced right away and began to seek the textures of things in his monochrome images.
To his way of thinking, the absence of colour manages to put shadows and shapes in focus, while colours distract us from the true heart of the composition. His theme is therefore the absence to be filled with content, for in his images, subtraction is equivalent to visual meditation.
Máximo Panés is colour-blind. He turns this into an advantage, finding his own personal artistic dimension in black and white photography, making what could have been a limitation into something positive to show us the world from a different point of view. Photography thus becomes a concept for him, a wealth of expression revealed to the onlooker. For instance, in his work on Barcelona Máximo Panés reveals lights, shadows and architecture, the city as a whole, attempting to use the camera lens to reveal the heart of the city that is normally hidden by its colours.
