Zaha Hadid Architects video presentation National Olympic Stadium, Tokyo
Architect Zaha Hadid firmly believes and confirms in a recently released video that The National Olympic Stadium Tokyo can be built in time for the important sports events programmed in the Japanese capital - the Rugby World Cup 2019 and Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.
At less than a month from the statement by the Japanese First Minister Shinzo Abe, who intends to abandon the project for the New National Stadium designed by the Iraqi architect, the architectural studio Zaha Hadid Architects has made public a video and report explaining the project created for Tokyo in detail. Zaha Hadid pinpoints the lack of competition between contractors' bidding to be the main cause of the high construction costs of the stadium and the if the intention of starting from scratch is to limit the budget it would be an unnecessary risk and useless waste of precious time.
The National Olympic Stadium Tokyo presentation focuses on the comparison with similar constructions built in other parts of the world to show the value of the project designed by the studio in well over two years of work. In the report other elements are identified which, according to Zaha Hadid, have not been correctly taken into account in the contractors' bids and would make all the difference in building the structure within the set time limit, like, for example, constructing the two arches which enclose the stadium lengthwise in parallel with the stadium seating bowl.
