Winy Maas and Hans Schröder win an award for their Markthal

The Markthal has quickly become a new icon in the city of Rotterdam. The building has made a significant contribution to improving the Dutch city’s international reputation, which is why mayor Aboutaleb presented architects Winy Maas of MVRDV and Hans Schröder of Provast with the em>Rotterdam Marketing Award 2014.

The Markthal which opened in Rotterdam on October 1, 2014 is a new kind of building: an indoor market combining shops with residential units, located in the arc-shaped volume forming the roof and walls of the Markthal. The volume’s inner façade is the surface on which Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam created Cornucopia, the biggest artwork in the Netherlands.
