The third edition of the ARCHMARATHON Awards has just closed, and out of the 42 projects entered in the competition, the international panel of judges chaired by Luca Molinari has named as OVERALL Winner Chinese architectural studio Vector Architects for the “Seashore Library” project, which they see as a work in poetic balance between architecture and nature, a refuge from the complexity of city life.
The judges also awarded prizes to the top ranking project in each of the ten contest categories: Arts & Culture (Francisco Mangado & Asociados - Fine Arts Museum of Asturias), Education Buildings (Perkins+Will - Case Western Reserve University, Tinkham Veale University Center), Religious Buildings (Espen Surnevik - Våler Church), Workspaces (00 Architecture - The Foundry Social Justice Center), Hotel & Leisure (Park Associati - Priceless Milan), Private Housing (a21 studio - Saigon house), Mixed Tenure Housing & Buildings (Urko Sánchez Architects - SOS Children’s Village), Retrofitting & Refurbishment (People's Architecture Office - Courtyard House Plugin), Urban Design & Public Spaces (Knight Architects - Merchant Square Bridge), Transport (ZUS Architects - Luchtsingel pedestrian bridge).
An online voting system on the event’s official web site permitted assignment of the ARCHMARATHON Crowd Award to the public’s favourite project, “Maternity and Oncologic Parking” by Studio Díaz y Díaz Arquitectos.
The next edition of ARCHMARATHON, entitled “Worldwide”, will be held in Italy in 2018.
