The winners of the 2014 Wienerberger Brick Award

The winners of the 2014 Wienerberger Brick Award were announced at the Architekturzentrum in Vienna. The first prize goes to the Kantana Film and Animation Institute in Thailand designed by architect Boonserm Premthada of Bangkok Project Studio.
Architect Wang Shu, 2012 Pritzker Prize winner and member of the jury, emphasised that the project uses brick not for decoration but as the principal structural material. He noted that the winning project had a major social impact right from the start of construction, as it was built using 600,000 handmade bricks made by locally trained workers.

In addition to the project by Boonserm Premthada, prizes were awarded to:
Residential Use category: John Lin/University of Hong Kong for A House for All Seasons
Public Use category: LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei GmbH & Co.KG for Ravensburg Art Museum
“Public Re-Use” category: Architects 51N4E for the Buda Art Centre
“Urban Infill” category: Architects Sol89 for their Cooking School in Ancient Slaughterhouse
Two special prizes were awarded to K2S Architects ltd. for Paasitorni Hotel & Conference Centre and Rusan arhitektura for Lumenart – House of Light.
