Station architecture

Railway stations and maritime terminals, metro lines and cable cars: this week we look back at projects and constructions covered in Floornature built to serve transportation and networks of all kinds. Our starting point is the newly inaugurated maritime terminal in Salerno, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. Another recent project in Campania by two world-renowned architects is located in Naples: the "Municipio" metro station designed by Álvaro Siza Viera and Eduardo Souto de Moura.
In Australia, an expansion on the metro line in northern Sydney incorporating 4 new stations won Hassell studio a prize in the 2011 Chicago Atheneaum International Architecture Awards.
Rotterdam Centraal Station is a significant example of contemporary architecture designed by Team CS (Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer en van Schooten Architecten, West 8).
Further investigating the theme of big railway stations, an entire Floornature itinerary invites visitors to discover Japan through the architecture of the country’s high-speed railway stations. And to conclude, we take a look at two new projects by architect and engineerSantiago Calatrava, the Mediopadana high-speed railway station in Italy and Oculus, the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York.
