On 21 June, the MAX IV Laboratory, a high performance laboratory with particle acceleration synchrotrons built in the Brunnshög area in Lund, in southern Sweden, was inaugurated. Starting in 2011, the architectural design for this project was carried out by Fojab architects, the landscape was designed by Snøhetta.
The Snøhetta architectural studio completed the landscape design, a 47-acre park, for the MAX IV Laboratory. The high performance laboratory with particle acceleration synchrotrons designed by Fojab architects was built in the Brunnshög area in Lund, in southern Sweden. The lengthy design and building process began in 2011 and ended on 21 June of this year, with the inauguration of the laboratories; as is widely known, the landscape will, however, be a constantly evolving project. The landscape design was guided by key criteria supporting the laboratory design: mitigation of ground vibrations, management of rainwater, and achievement of sustainability objectives.
The entire area was planned to be a large public park with no fences, a vast expanse of sloping green. The irregular topography was created with three-dimensional modelling to prevent and mitigate the ground vibrations caused by the motorway traffic, so as not to interfere with delicate experiments.
