Optical illusions and 3D video-mapping of Alcantara Magic Hotel

A building undergoing renovation in Corso Como in Milan has become the Alcantara® Magic HOTEL thanks to a “magic” maxi outdoor installation.

Optical illusions and 3D video-mapping of Alcantara Magic Hotel

When the city of Milan is transformed for Design Week, the Salone del Mobile, strange things can happen: for example, a building undergoing renovation in Corso Como can be transformed into a hotel as if by "magic"!
The Alcantara® Magic HOTEL, created from 200 sqm of soft fabric covering the scaffolding on the building, reproduces the façade of a real hotel. At dusk the magic is completed by projection of video-mapping on the windows of the hotel, which open up to reveal scenes of everyday life.

The artistic installation was created by architect and designer Gentucca Bini for Alcantara®, combining 2D and 3D elements. The elements and architectural fittings in relief, such as the balcony and some of the shutters, have also been covered with Alcantara® with an ultra-high resolution photographic print. The optical illusion is perfect, because the material restores a realistic 3D effect to the photographic print.
The installation will be visible until April 20 2016.
