mostra Lina Bo Bardi in Italia al Maxxi Roma

The exhibition underway at Maxxi in Rome, Lina Bo Bardi in Italia / Quello che volevo, era avere Storia (“Lina Bo Bardi in Italy / What I wanted was to have a History”) looks back over the Italian years of renowned architect Lina Bo Bardi, who rose to fame in Brazil, where she moved in 1946 with her husband Pietro Maria Bardi.

Lina Bo Bardi was just starting out in her career after graduating in 1939 in Rome, her native city; she worked in publishing in Milan until she moved to Brazil in 1946. In her formative years she worked with Giò Ponti on the editorial staff of Domus and Lo Stile and founded architecture magazine A with Bruno Zevi and Carlo Pagani.
The ideas she developed on paper at that time were later to be put into practice in Lina Bo Bardi’s many projects in Brazil. The exhibition includes original documents such as sketches, magazines of the day, photographs and video testimony. The importance of her Italian years for the architect’s career is demonstrated in her Literary Curriculum , a sort of autobiography of Lina Bo Bardi used as the introduction to the exhibition.
