Ghizzardi/Berengo Gardin: unpublished photos at Boretto (RE)

The work of Gianni Berengo Gardin, the world-renowned photographer and winner of the World Press Photo contest, will be on exhibit in Reggio Emilia during the European Photography Festival – Earth Effect. Fifteen photographs never before published will be on exhibit May 16 through June 19 at Casa Museo Al Belvedere "Pietro Ghizzardi" in Boretto.

Berengo Gardin’s photographs, taken in the '70s and collected as part of the "A country twenty years later" project, immortalise the essence of painter and farmer Pietro Ghizzardi. Never before exhibited, they constitute a unique, precious heritage which dialogues directly with the artist’s work in this exhibition; the photographs are alternated with pieces from the museum’s permanent collection of paintings by Ghizzardi, and this proximity demonstrates just how the close the visions of the painter and the photographer were.

The exhibition's importance lies in the concept of promotion and enjoyment of the material contained in even the smallest archives, and it is underlined by the enthusiasm with which Gianni Berengo Gardin responded to the exhibition proposal. The photographer attended the opening on May 16.
