Cucinella wins the WT Smart City Award

The winners of the WT Smart City Award, an International Prize for Innovation in Architecture launched by WT, were showcased at Fuorisalone 2014.
The first prize went to Mario Cucinella’s plans for the new ARPT building.

Cucinella’s building is governed by the principles of bioclimatic architecture and inspired by the study of sand dunes, "natural buildings" generated by the spontaneous action of the wind on the sand. The building’s concave/convex form is aerodynamic, ventilating the building naturally with the hot wind at the warmest time of day and with the cool evening breeze.

The second prize went to the Biotic City project by architects Jessica Hernandez, Edgar Garcia & Bing Bai. Third place went to BAT & ACHAZABALLA arquitectosBaltic Sea Park project.
