CTBUH 10 Year Award Winner 2015, Santiago Calatrava, Turning Torso, Malmo, Sweden

On 6^th August, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) announced the winner of the 2015 edition of the CTBUH 10 Year Award to be the Turning Torso skyscraper in Malmö (Sweden) designed by architect Santiago Calatrava.
The prize is awarded to skyscrapers that have become important for the community over the years. Therefore, these buildings have their own history and are evaluated according to results achieved in diverse criteria such as environmental and technological standards, etc.
The Turning Torso is a steel and glass residential tower, completed in 2005, and was the first skyscraper to have been built with a 90° twist from the base to the top along its vertical axis.
In a short time the skyscraper became an icon of the Swedish city, symbol of its renovation and their focus on the future. Winner of the 2005 MIPIM Award for the best residential building in the world, its 190 metres make it still the highest building in Scandinavia today. The CTBUH panel of judges particularly emphasised the revolutionary nature of the project which, although it was designed as many as fifteen years ago, it has made and continues to have a great influence on the city of Malmö regarding the general design of tall buildings and also in the international architectural scene.
