City of Glasgow College Riverside Campus

In Glasgow, the new buildings of the Riverside Campus of the City of Glasgow College, designed by Michael Laird Architects & Reiach and Hall Architects, have been selected for the final phase of the RIBA Stirling Prize. The new buildings are close to one of the main bridges on the Clyde river, and have become a new access point for the city, as well as an important point of reference on the city skyline.

The new constructions were organised around two main areas, a wide hall and a fenced garden. Beyond their specific functions, these spaces were intended to create more of an opportunity for students and the city's inhabitants alike, to meet up, learn and interact.
In particular, around the garden the student halls of residence can be found, as well as the teaching facilities and the laboratories, that overlook the river and the city. The great entrance hall extends through all seven floors of the building, allowing its users to immediately find their bearings when inside, and presenting the campus as an institution that is open to the community.
