C.F. Møller Architects chose timber as the principal structural material for the "Örnsro Trästad" (Örnsro Timber Town) project built with C.F. Møller Landscape in collaboration with Slättö Förvaltning. The project involves creation of a new residential district to relaunch the town of Örebro, Sweden, and won the design competition held by the city government of Örebro and the Swedish Association of Architects.
Timber will therefore be used to build the frames and façades of the buildings in the new district.
The architects chose timber because it responded to a number of needs: it can be used to build innovative structures of high quality which interact with the nature park around the district while offering important benefits as a renewable material in the area which consumes very little energy and has a limited impact on the environment.
The new residential district will be composed of buildings of different heights linked by paths and activities and integrated with the existing paths and the big city park which mediates the relationship between the city and its natural surroundings.
