Mixes and Grinds
Ariostea recreates the same material composition as natural rock to produce tiles that are homogeneous all the way through, without any pores or flaws. Grind and mix are carefully studied by the company’s researchers and developed on the basis of the parameters outlined below.
Grinding. Clays, stored in boxes with a maximum capacity of 30 thousand tons, are carefully selected and divided up according to their origin and technical properties. This blend of clays is then subjected to a process of grinding, pressing, superheating and pulverisation with balls and water to create a homogeneous velvety sludge known as slurry.
The mix. The water used in processing is eliminated through a process known as atomisation which involves filtering and vaporising the slurry. After this process the new mixtures of selected, processed clays take the form of tiny spheres which may be pressed to create floor and wall tiles with controlled technical and aesthetic properties.
