Pierluigi Sammarro: the eco-friendly Dame di Toscana resort
Architect Pierluigi Sammarro designed the interiors of a luxury resort in the old medieval hamlet of Lastra a Signa, just outside Florence. The building comprises five apartments and two common area, plus a large garden. Its name – “Dame di Toscana” – derives from the fact that each apartment is dedicated to one of the ladies from the Medici family: Lucrezia Tornabuoni, Caterina de Medici, Eleonora di Toledo, Bianca Cappello and Clarice Orsini.
The bold character of the contemporary style space is defined in the pure forms with generous splashes of white, and eco-friendly materials are also adopted: natural oak for the parquet floors, travertine marble for the bathroom walls, terraces and outside paths, ash wood for the furniture. And guests can either stroll in the garden or enjoy the hanging garden on the roof terrace, complete with a Jacuzzi and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside of Calcinaia hill.
