A modern interpretation of Dutch history is the concept behind the interior design by Marcel Wanders for the Andaz Hotel by Hyatt: Amsterdam Prinsengracht.

Marcel Wanders - Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht - Interior Design

The Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht hotel opened in 2012 in the building that used to be Amsterdam city library on Prinsengracht canal, featuring interior design by Marcel Wanders.

The only part of the historic building that is still recognisable is the outside, for apart from the façade, the building’s structure has been completely changed to meet top quality standards with a special focus on energy sustainability. Marcel Wanders’ interiors reflect the spirit and vitality of the neighbourhood where the hotel stands, right in the city’s historic heart amidst art galleries and fashionable shops.

The concept behind the interior design is a contemporary reinterpretation of Dutch history. The architect uses colours and motifs that have come to represent Holland in the collective imagination, such as oversized versions of the blue patterns of traditional Delft ceramics, the golden age, tulips, and the colour orange, as well as plenty of books to recall the building’s original function.
