gmp completes new office building in Hamburg

The office building completed recently by gmp in Hamburg is built to high energy conservation standards, in compliance with the requirements of DGNB gold certification.
The new block fits harmoniously into its context, staggering the eaves and combining the volumes to connect the different heights of the existing buildings: the Grand Elysée Hotel and a Victorian-era apartment building.

To help it fit into the site between the two buildings, the architects chose light-coloured stone cladding for the façade and put in windows of different sizes.
The smallest window panes are in fact on the same scale as those of the early 20th century residential buildings, while the windows of double height recall the sumptuous hotel.
Jutting parts and hollows with curved lines join the two parts of the office building, adding motion to the façade, which looks different depending on the observer’s point of view.
