The expansion for the new Faculty of Music of McGill University in Montreal opened in the fall of 2005. The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), as the building is called, is the product of a partnership between Saucier + Perrotte architectural studios and Menkès Shooner Dagenais.

Faculty of Music - McGill University, Saucier + Perrotte e Menkès Shooner Dagenais. Montreal, 2005 The next seven levels are wrapped up in light bands of white and grey zinc reminiscent of geological stratification.
The eastern façade is covered with a pattern of matt and polished aluminium reflecting the Strathcona Building and the urban landscape around it. The department of music seems to be holding a discussion with the site's tectonic history, with the city skyline, and with the shapes, colours and volumes of the city.
The library is the most important feature of the upper levels: a white cube opens up onto the city like a lens. When lit up at night, it alludes to the idea of a lighthouse signalling the presence of the university campus. Visible from all around, the library volume anticipates and signals the presence of McGill University. The new building is linked with the rest of the faculty of music by a glazed bridge.
