DUS Architects and 3D printing for the European Union

DUS Architects of the Netherlands are famous for having built the world’s first 3D printed house. They were recently commissioned to design and build the façade of a temporary building to host the Dutch European Union Presidency. The entire façade is printed out of bioplastic so that it can be dismantled and recycled after the event is over.

The appearance of the building, in which big triangles form little shelters and benches for people outside, is inspired by the building’s history as a place where boats were built. The triangular shapes and the colours white and blue are references to ships’ sails. This is the first time that an element on this scale has been 3D printed for public use.
