Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou by CCD – Cheng Chung Design

China is now known for extremely luxurious, large-scale projects and the Diaoyutai Hotel by Hong Kong architects Cheng Chung Design is certainly one of them.

Diaoyutai Hotel Hangzhou by CCD – Cheng Chung Design

Cheng Chung Design does things on a big scale. The Diaoyutai Hotel inaugurated in 2016 in Hangzhou and designed by these architects covers a surface area of 54600 metres and is 73 metres high. There are 162 rooms and 560 seats in the three restaurants, a twenty-metre swimming pool, spa, sauna and 160 m2 fitness area.

Built for the G20, the Diaoyutai was financed by a hotel owner who decided to marry Chinese culture, instead of adapting this structure to the others he owns.

The almost austere seriousness of luxury is expressed in every detail: from the enormous entrance space with its golden tapestries, the black tiled floors, the beamed ceiling and the circular opening that leads to the reception, as well as the three different restaurants, each one with its own style: traditional Chinese, contemporary and classic. Its sumptuousness can also be seen in the size of the swimming pool, the attention shown to rooms and the details of the garden that overlooks the city from the upper floors. CCD has designed a hotel on a grand scale and, despite this, their attention to detail has been almost maniacal.
