Charles and Ray Eames exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery London
The exhibition underway at the Barbican Art Gallery in London celebrates designers Charles and Ray Eames, a couple in life and at work, universally acknowledged as among the most influential designers of the 20th century.
The two designers were tireless experimenters, for even if their most important area of interest was product design, the work of Charles and Ray Eames and their team at the Eames Office investigated numerous different disciplines which are only indirectly related. Architecture, furniture, graphic design, painting, drawing, film, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations and exhibitions, and instructional models were all areas of interest for the duo. Their work is of importance not only for their production of objects but also for transmission of their ideas through various tools and means of communication, anticipating the global '“ information age”.
The exhibition showcases more than 380 projects in the form of drawings, plans, models, and installations as well as personal letters and photographs, offering the public a complete retrospective of the work of Charles and Ray Eames and the inheritance their work has left contemporary society.
