TREEDOM by Atelier YokYok TREEDOM is an installation presented by the French atelier YokYok at the SZIGET festival in Budapest, Hungary - a symbolic wood on the Danube's Freedom Island - a place to explore with an unusual atmosphere.

SZIGET is an annual music festival which takes place in Budapest from 10th to 17th August in an area called the Island of Freedom that spreads over half the island of Obudai. Over fourhundred thousand visitors attended the 2015 festival.

The artistic installation TREEDOM obviously refers to the word FREEDOM which is the name of the island. This piece, by the Parisian creative studio Atelier YokYok, turned into the new meeting place on the island and, at the same time, a place with an unusual atmosphere, typical of real woods which emanate an almost holy spatiality. This effect was especially perceptible during the evening hours due to the Sammode illuminations.

Originating from the need to create a shared area usable by the maximum number of festival visitors, the Atelier YokYok's idea starts with 37 ten metre tall poles simulating tree trunks and over two hundred shorter pieces to make the branches. The first pole fixed in the earth is the starting point for all the others mapping out an artificial forest in a special geometrical formation designed to encourage interaction with and between the users.

The actual creation of the piece reflects the will to share and the spirit of the festival. A major collaboration between the Atelier YokYok and a team of carpenters and architects took nine days to set up the TREEDOM installation, before the opening of SZIGET, while the dismantling only took two days (the installation is reversible and recyclable).
TREEDOM really is a landmark in the landscape of the island and an iconic example of the uniting force of art, even if only temporarily.
