Make New History, Chicago Architecture Biennial 2017 The second edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial addresses the theme “Make New History” and focuses on a new generation of architects whose renewed interest in the history of architecture is spawning innovative, progressive work.

A little less than two months until the opening of the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial that is running from 16 September 2017 to 7 January 2018 - one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year in global architecture, after its first edition in 2015 was a huge success with experts and general public alike.
CAB2017, under the artistic direction of Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee from Johnston Marklee in Los Angeles and with Todd Palmer as executive director, will showcase and examine the efforts of contemporary architects to align their work with historical versions, in other words of how renewed interest in old buildings and traditions can form the basis for new drive in the world of architecture. This is also reflected in the title “Make New History” that, at a time “when there is too much information and not enough attention—when a general collective amnesia perpetuates a state of eternal presentness” aims to show the future of architecture and design rooted in history, seen through the eyes of 100+ participating studios, which include many names already known to Livegreenblog readers, like Aires Mateus and fala atelier from Portugal, the Swiss firm Christ&Gantenbein, MAIO from Spain, just to mention some, but also the Japan-based SANAA.
The relationship between art and architecture, also dear to the artistic directors, is underscored by the fact that CAB2017 is opening in alignment with the sixth EXPO CHICAGO, the international modern and contemporary art exhibition being held from 13 to 17 September at the Navy Pier. Which is also the location for one of the most anticipated special events of CAB2017: Here Hear Chicago, a new site-specific project that incorporates art, design and performance created by artist Nick Cave and architect Jeanne Gang from Chicago.
