Livegreenblog in Beirut for Common Fest Common Fest in Beirut gave Livegreenblog the perfect opportunity to visit the capital of Lebanon. This cosmopolitan city and its exuberant creativity won our heart and gave us some insight into lots of different worlds - from Beirut to Berlin - thanks to the packed festival programme.

“Travel, like dreams, is a door that opens from the real world into a world that is yet to be discovered”, wrote Guy de Maupassant in a perfect description of our experience in Beirut last week, during Common Fest.

Common Fest, is an art and culture festival with a culinary edge, organised by Matisse Events and it aims to set up a link between Lebanon and the global art scene, in particular focusing on forging relations between Beirut and Berlin. The organisers were successful in their intent and Common Fest was highly appreciated both by the Lebanese government, with the participation of the Ministers of Culture and of Tourism as well as by the European Community, with the visit of Angelina Eichhorst, ambassador and head of the EU delegation in Lebanon.

So, visitors were treated to a whole range of artistic trends - from photography to street art, from design to music to cuisine - represented by Lebanese artists and by other artists from all over the world.
A moment that brought together lots of culturally interested people to the old La Magnanerie silk factory and that allowed us to really get to know this extremely friendly country.

Lebanon is home to some surprisingly beautiful hidden treasures even just outside Beirut and we'll be looking at them more closely over the next few weeks, in addition to exploring Lebanese design and architecture. One of the partners was MACAM (Modern and Contemporary Art Museum) realized by a non-profit society, which was founded in December 2012 for the sole purpose of establishing a museum, MACAM is first museum of its kind in Lebanon.

The pictures are by German photographer Ken Schluchtmann, two times winner of the Arcaid Images Photography Award, who displayed his Norwegian series at Common Fest.
