dOCUMENTA(13): art in the park.
June 9 through September 16 2012 the big contemporary art show dOCUMENTA(13) will be open to visitors in Kassel (Germany) under the title “Collapse and Recovery” with a large number of the artworks on display amidst the greenery of Karlsaue park, inviting people to take a long walk surrounded by art and nature.

Every five years Kassel invites contemporary art lovers to dOCUMENTA. It is worth noting that in this edition even the logo and the place itself have a specific visual identity, underlining the importance of Visual Marketing in art as elsewhere.

Artworks are grouped together at various points in the German city, and Karlsaue park in the immediate vicinity of the Fulda River has never been as important as it is in this thirteenth edition. Visitors are invited to take a long walk through the Baroque park dotted with wooden pavilions, sculptures amidst the trees, greenhouses and sounds.

One particularly interesting work by Japanese artist Shinro Ontake consists of a hut built out of found objects, artefacts of urban nomadism: an example of applied recycling.

Chinese artist Song Dong has created an inviting, apparently green mountain under the sign of “Doing Nothing” which in actual fact conceals a heart made of urban wastes.

Along the walk we come across the “Swiss chard Ferry" installation linking the two banks of the canal. Swiss artist Christian Phillip Müller brings together a series of pontoons belonging to the civil guard planted with various types of chard, which visitors are invited to try, in a mobile sculpture with a reference to the increasingly pressing issue of food production and ecology.

Compost site is a work by Pierre Huyghe made out of scattered materials, a sculpture with a beehive for a head, marsh, plants, ants: a continually changing green universe.
These are only a few of the many works visitors may explore in Karlsaue Park until September 16!
