ADEPT designs the new concept for the Sonorous Museum in Copenhagen

Multidisciplinary Danish firm, ADEPT worked with Creo Architects and Niras engineers to come up with the design concept to showcase the collection of historical musical instruments at the Danish National Museum: the Sonorous Museum.
Denmark-based firm, ADEPT, came up with the concept for the Sonorous Museum, which gives the impression of a musical score written with the notes of spatial design and attentive selection of materials.

“Radio House” was designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in the 1950s and it hosts the collection of historical musical instruments of the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen.
This makeover is not just a refurbishment of the modernist architecture, respecting the lines and ideas of that period, it also takes a new look at the spaces and at the building’s interior layout.

ADEPT worked with Creo Architects and the engineers from Niras to come up with an innovative concept for the music practice rooms, which are all clad in wood and that are each shaped differently as a reference to the actual musical instruments and as an invitation to use them.

The instruments on display in the museum area look like suspended notes in glass showcases: the whole set-up turns into a tangible instrumental symphony, an image of music, underscoring the connection between architecture and sound, both seeking harmony – one a feast for the eyes, the other music to our ears.
