  • WINY MAAS

    1959 - Born in Schijndel
    1978/83 - Studies at RHSTL Boskoop, qualifying as a landscape architect.
    1984/90 - Studies at the Technical University of Delft's Department of Architecture and Town Planning, graduating with honours.
    1994/97 - Member of the editorial staff of Forum
    1995/97 - Member of the editorial staff of Items.
    1998 - Participates in the National Design Group programme

    Winy Maas has worked as an architect and town planner with: Bureau Bakker (Bleeker), D.R.O. (Amsterdam), Kuiper Compagnons (Rotterdam), UNESCO (Nairobi), DHV (Amersfoort) and Rem Koolhaas' Office for Metropolitan Architecture (Rotterdam).
    Winy Maas regularly holds lessons and workshops in schools and institutions all over the world (AA London, Berlage Institute Amsterdam, Universities of Delft, Eindhoven, Berlin, Barcelona, Oslo and Vienna, at the Cooper Union New York and in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Princeton).
    JACOB VAN RIJS

    1964 - Born in Amsterdam
    1983/90 - Studies at the Free Academy in The Hague and the Technical University of Delft's Department of Architecture, graduating with honours.

    Jacob van Rijs has worked as an architect with: Martinez Lapenas & Torres Arquitectos (Barcelona), Van Berkel en Bos (Amsterdam) and Rem Koolhaas' Office for Metropolitan Architecture (Rotterdam).
    Jacob van Rijs regularly holds lessons and workshops in schools and institutions all over the world (TU Delft, Architecture Academy Amsterdam and Rietveld Art Academy Amsterdam, AA London, Cooper Union New York, and also in Texas and at the Universities of Madrid and Barcelona).
    NATHALIE DE VRIES

    1965 - Born in Appingedam
    1984/90 - Studies at the Technical University of Delft's Department of Architecture, graduating with honours.

    Nathalie de Vries has worked as an architect with: Martinez Lapenas & Torres Arquitectos (Barcelona), D.J.V. Architects (Rotterdam) and Mecanoo Architects (Delft). Nathalie de Vries regularly holds lectures and workshops in schools and institutions all over the world.
    She has been guest professor at the Berlage Institute, at the Academy of Building Arts in Arnhem and at the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Delft.
    She is also a member of the Fund for Architecture committee and co-editor of the book Eating Brazil.
    Studio MVRDV

    1991 - The MVRDV Group was founded in Rotterdam (Netherlands) by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries after winning first prize in the Berlin European Competition.
    1997 - Villa VPRO receives the Concrete Award from the Dutch Concrete Association
    1997 - Villa VPRO receives the Dudok Award from the Municipality of Hilversum (Netherlands).
    1997 - The Wozoco project receives the Merkelbach Award from the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
    1998 - Double House is awarded an honourable mention for the National Steel Prize,
    1999 - The Dutch Pavilion is awarded the Belmont Prize by the German Forberg Schneider Foundation.
    2000 - The design of Wozoco's in Amsterdam is awarded the J.A. van Eck Prize by the BNA (Dutch Architects' Association).
    2000 - MVRDV is awarded the Fritz Schumacher Prize by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation (Hanover, Germany) for its complete works.
    2000 - The Metacity/Datatown installation receives an honourable mention for the Media Art Prize awarded by the Center for Art and Media Technology (Karslruhe, Germany)
